Healthy Lifestyles Working Group

Mission

The Healthy Lifestyles Working Group (HLWG) aims to cooperate with volunteers to promote community outreach and encourage education about topics such as anti-smoking, drugs and alcohol, mental health, nutrition, fitness, and positive relationships. The HLWG works to develop strategies for healthy lifestyles through effective communication, production, and dissemination of materials and support.

The Healthy Lifestyles Working Group provides plentiful opportunities for personal development.  We work to stimulate and refresh volunteers so that they can reach their full potential. As a working group, we meet 4 times a year to discuss projects and retreats. Retreats are open to all volunteers, not only those in the HLWG, and involve activities such as skiing and backpacking. Volunteers are encouraged to bring Ukrainian youth and community members to these events in order to further promote awareness of healthy living within their communities. Furthermore, we make available a wide array of events, coachings, trainings, on-site visits, retreats, online resources, and curriculum implementation/lesson plans which are extended to all.  In this way, volunteers are encouraged to promote healthy lifestyles in their communities.

Membership and Meetings

The HLWG accepts applications after each swearing-in ceremony. Volunteers have exactly 2 invitations to apply for the HLWG. After two invitations have been extended, a volunteer may no longer apply. (Example: a Group 37 volunteer may only apply after the Group 38 and Group 39 swearing-ins.) Notification of the application can be found in the Friday Digest and on the HLWG website after swearing-in ceremonies. This application is comprised of a few questions measuring the applicant’s desire to be an active member in the group, and his or her ability to contribute to group projects. A volunteer is not an official member of the HLWG until he or she has attended a meeting. If a member misses 2 consecutive meetings, he or she forfeits membership.
