Online Teacher Training Courses/ Resources

For our colleagues who are interested in professional development, these existing resources are valuable tools. Some of these courses can also be done either individually or in larger groups, with PCVs or others serving as facilitators.

E-Teacher Scholarship Programs

This US State Department program offers 7 different online TEFL-related 10-week graduate-level courses 4 times per year to teachers around the world. This program offers professional development as well as cultural exchange between participants. To apply, contact the Public Affairs section of the Embassy.

Shaping the Way We Teach English Webinar Course

This is an online seminar course, with 5 sessions per course. Those who participate in 3 of 5 sessions can receive an e-certificate. This program, although also sponsored by the US State Department, is more flexible and less intensive than the E-Teacher Scholarship Program.

TESOL International: Online Education Programs

TESOL International offers a variety of online teacher training programs, including a Virtual Seminar series, an Online Teaching Certificate Program, a Leadership Development Certificate Program, and a TESOL Core Certificate Program. This site offers information on online courses and self-access courses. Additionally, materials for conducting teacher trainings—either in person or online—are available.

The Ukrainian Institute for Information Technology in Education

UIITE, which is housed at Kyiv Polytechnic University, works to improve ICT in education in Ukraine.  They offer a variety of e-trainings, including a professional development series, as well as a bank of online resources.

Intel offers Intel Teach and Intel Teach Elements, a collection of courses on 21st century learning. Additionally, they offer the Intel Engage Online Community as a forum for teacher discussions.

TESOL International/ CALL Resource List

TESOL’s Computer-assisted Language Learning (CALL) Interest Section has been busy bookmarking some
great online resources. Dr. Elizabeth Hanson-Smith shared the Diigo CALL IS Virtual Software List on the
TESOL CALL Community. This list contains tons of resources on various teaching topics! However, this
post focuses only on the teacher-training resources.
